THE FUTURE
It's ten years since a small band of filmmakers and a first-time cast met on a remote hilltop in the Yorkshire Dales and began shooting the early scenes of Lad: A Yorkshire Story.

In the intervening years I've heard many reasons to believe that our efforts were in vain; That our cast were unknown, that no one watches dramas, that a Yorkshire-set film will not travel...

...and what I've learnt is that the easiest thing in the world is to find someone who will say 'no'.

Of course 'no' rarely visits alone. Usually it's accompanied by 'difficult' or 'wrong time' or 'things have changed'...

'No' has many faces. 'No' is the cul-de-sac of dreams, the ship-wreck of destiny.

And yet it is the easiest word to defeat, because Yes is where the true power exists. Yes is the creator, the invisible hand that pulls us towards our dreams. Yes is brimming with potential. Yes is the future. No is the past.

And it is to the future that I now look. Lad is just the beginning of what I hope will be a trilogy of films set in the Yorkshire dales;
One on land, one underground and one at sea.

In other words; the best is yet to come.

... but just as Lad was greater than the sum of its parts, so to do I look to you - my audience - to be the building blocks for the next part of the journey, because it was you - the audience - who told me that Lad belonged in the world when so many others said no, and it is you who will continue to create the opportunities to create small intimate films, when the distribution model would like to tell us that only blockbusters belong on the big screen.

So, no matter whether you've followed us since the beginning or have just learnt about our story, you can help by spreading the word and encouraging friends and family to watch Lad by sharing our website: https://www.ladayorkshirestory.com

And please consider taking an active role in our journey - if you know an actor, a director, a producer, a publicist, a manager, a film exec, an agent, an influencer... anyone and everyone who you feel can get behind us then tell them about Lad.
Ask them to reach out. To spread the word. To pass it up the chain.

So often we sit on the sidelines as spectators and forget that we can influence the outcome of the posts that we read or the futures of the people that we come across.

Lad has been a ten year journey for me and I've come to realise that it's a journey that will never end, for if it did I would arrive at a destination less worthy than the journey itself.
